"Down With Women: Analysis of a Mass Murder"
BBC Radio Four

Original transmission December 1st 1991

Like any Montrealer, I can remember exactly where I was when I learned of the massacre of fourteen female engineering students at the Université de Montréal on December 6th 1989. I wrote and presented this docudrama, first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on December 1st 1991, after revisiting the city. All the quotes are attributable, though the Detective figure is a composite of a couple of undercover policemen who did not want to be identified. Likewise the Doctor. Forgive the English accents, it was show made for domestic UK consumption, and instead congratulate the BBC and my marvellous producer there, Louise Purslow (the woman who taught me everything decent that I know about radio), for having recognized the gravity of this terrible moment in the history of misogyny and that attention needed to be paid.
